Google's OpenFermion: Open Source Chemistry Package for Quantum Computers!
This is the start of something big; very big! Years from now we will see this evolve to automate discoveries in physics, chemistry, materials science and medicine! Today all of these fields involve experiments and a great deal of trial and error. Today it takes years to make a discovery, test it, and then implement it. In the future this trial and error will be removed from the laboratory and will be replaced by simulations in a quantum computer. These simulations will find the optimum solutions to our challenges. This will change the world beyond recognition and at a pace that we find very surprising!
For many quantum computing is complicated and hard to understand, so too are the detailed physics calculations underlying chemistry. Now Google has produced an open source software package to allow scientists to simulate chemistry on a quantum computer!
Quantum computers will be able to solve some types of problems thousands or millions of times faster that today's supercomputers!
